    I was tempted by the NeatDesk scanner but was hesitant since it was touted as both a personal and business product. While cheaper (but not by much) I just wasn't convinced it would serve my purposes. There are several reviews around that confirmed this.

    I received a suggestion from a colleague to try the S1500 and I will publicly thank him here.

    It is one of the few technology items I have bought that works so well right out of the box. The software is a bit daunting, there is so much of it but once that finally was done I really went to town. My biggest problem now is that my shredder is having a hard time keeping up with the volume of paper to be destroyed.

    By all means buy the bundled product. For a few dollars more (probably saved in shipping) you get $400 worth of productivity software. I wonder what people do who don't buy the software since that really is the secret to making this system work.

    The Rack2 to File software is excellent and very intuitive.

    Some people have complained about jamming. While I experienced some jamming, as I became more adept at scanning and knowing what would work and what wouldn't, jamming just didn't become a problem.

    This is indeed one of the best products I have ever purchased from Amazon. It exactly solved the problem I was having and is making for a far more efficient and workable office.

  • Comment: It is obvious this product was designed to ensure the overall scanning solution is of utmost simplicity to the end user. The scanner has two physical states. In the closed/OFF stated the product is no bigger than a small shoe box (very compact). To operate one must flip open a double decker plastic guide contraptions. The sw installation was simple and w/o any issues with windows XP. Scanning speed is good about 2-3 sec per page. Both sides of a document are scanned simultaneously with blank pages being omitted. I scanned the same pack of 16 pages about 5 times and noticed occasional errors in the auto rotation which I was able to correct in the setup page. I also noticed one or two pages were slightly tilted. Does not always happen. As an engineer I would give this unit a 3.5 stars for design robustness of the slightly flimsy flip mechanism. The sw user interface is simple and to the point. Although I have not given this unit some commercial level marathon exercise, it appears to be great product. Recommended.

  • Comment: I really like the scanner for its ease of use and speed. I agree the Twain driver would be nice but I knew it was missing going in. I read one review that referenced the inability to scan more than 50 documents at a time. I have a workaround which allows me to scan several hundred pages into one file at a time.

    The Scansnap produces and error if pages overlap asking you to verify it is only one page. I use this to my advantage by taking a blank piece of paper and putting two or three Post-It notes on it. When I load my documents in the ADF I put this page last. When the scanner reaches this page the error message pops up asking me to verify the page. I reload the ADF, tell the software this is a bad page and needs to be deleted then press the Continue Scanning button to scan the next set of documents. You still can't append to an old file, but you can scan as many pages as you want in a single file.
